Welcome to Frösö Zoo - Familjeparken - one of Sweden's
largest zoological gardens with exotic animals
Frösö Zoo has existed on Frösön, Jämtland
since 1960. It's a private zoo owned by the family Netterström.
During these years the establishment has continuously been developed
to what it is today. The area is 42 hectare with about 100 different
buildings. It's situated on a height on the north side of Frösön.
There are different activities such as: zoo, tropichouse, biological
museum, circus, amusement park, restaurant, snack bar, kiosks and
zooshop.

|
| Frösö Zoo is totally
specialised in exotic animals. Ever since the zoo started the goal
was clear, the zoo should be a meeting place for exotic animals. They
should live a life as good as possible for animals in captivity. During
the years the conditions for the animals have been further improved. |
|
Preserve and protect threatened animals
Frösö Zoo is also working with preserving and protecting
threatened species. Here they have a chance to breed and afterwards
be replaced into nature. For the visitors there is a good chance
to take a close look at the animals. The zoo is a living reference
book about exotic animals. Frösö Zoo has the largest group
of Siberian Tigers in Sweden today.
Sometimes it's difficult to see all the animals when walking around
the zoo, but so it is in nature. One must be observant, look for
experiences and be patient. The zoo and the buildings are planned
so that both animals and people should like it.
School education
Frösö Zoo is an important resource in the education in
schools. We are a complement to the theoretical studies. Here in
the zoo one can see the living animals, learn what they look like,
how they move, how they live and how to recognise them. The studies
are on the animals' conditions - as in nature, one has to be observant
to see and experience something.
We, the management of the zoo, hope that the visitors and the pupils
will get an increasing understanding of the nature and be inspired
to a living interest for the nature. That's what the zoo is for.

Blue whale skeleton
There are not only wild animals but also domestic animals in the
zoo. There is also a blue whale skeleton from 1779. By showing this
skeleton we hope to give the visitors a perspecitve on human development
and vital conditions through the history.
